I worked at HomeAway as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

The company has a very laid-back, friendly culture and it seems as if they only hire people that are easy to collaborate and work with. The company is very well-organized, onboarding was extremely smooth.

Cons

The projects could be more interesting and it seems like some teams are better to work on than others. Honestly it's hard to think of much to write here.

I have been working at HomeAway full-time

    Pros

Free breakfast on Fridays Awesome co-workers New computer equipment provided 1st day of employment

    Cons

Management is EXTREMELY disconnected from their team Internal promotions is at the bottom of management's list HomeAway Executive leaders must start listening to their customers. Sit in on a CS or T&S call a few times per week. The fraud on the website is uncontrollable and I feel for the customers. Multiple calls per day regarding phishing and fraudulent listings. Until there is a secure form of communication, HomeAway will continue to lose customers and their reputation will continue to suffer.

    Advice to Management

LISTEN to your team (especially the customer service reps). They are dealing with the customers first-hand and the lack of support from management only lowers morale among the team and the overall reputation of HomeAway and the support for customers. Be truthful in the interview and explain what the job entails from day to day rather than glamorizing the job description to pull people in the door. Save money on breakfast and start promoting people - there are amazingly talented people at HomeAway. Show them appreciation for their hard work and talent by promoting your employees and setting a career timeline. Holidays OFF. I worked 4th of July and received 3 calls between 8am - 5pm. It is NOT NECESSARY to have full staff on a holiday. Let your CS employees enjoy time with their friends and family.

I worked at HomeAway full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A marketplace business (in travel) that has many facets and lots of interesting challenges and opportunities for designers, developers, marketers, and product people.

    Cons

The company has tons of headcount and lots of smart people but seems to roll out average products slowly and prevents them from capitalizing on big opportunities right in front of them.

    Advice to Management

Make decisions and find ways to execute them better and faster.
