Pros

Can do attitudes in organisation, great communication between staff & management, a pragmatic approach taken to leadership, an opportunity to make a difference, plenty of opportunities at junior levels of the organisation.

Cons

A lack of senior opportunities at mid to senior management level, lack of investment in systems; is not really sure what it stands for.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The business needs a review of its HR team - it often acts (or doesn't) in a way detrimental to the progression of the business, rather than the facilitation of management needs.

    Pros

    The kitchen and bathroom department is the best place to work in HomeBase, it allows more freedom, more variety and you are treated with more respect.

    Cons

    All other departments give little responsibility, and take little pride over work, a result of attitudes of managers and staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give more responsibility and financial incentives to staff. Giving bonuses in nectar points is insulting. Treat staff as adults, who deserve respect.

    I worked at Homebase Limited full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Generous breaks given and mostly paid for. Great work environment as long as you are enthusiastic and don't slack off.

    Cons

    Monotonous and repetitive tasks given to low level employees, above and beyond other retailers iv worked for. Managers or team leaders sometimes give you an unrealistic time frame to complete tasks in. Managers and team leaders discourage talking between staff while on the shop floor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Allow staff members to socialise more on the shop floor as long as they are completing the tasks they have been given on time and minding customers. It raises employee morale and job satisfaction, meaning they will be more productive ad give better customer service.
