Former Employee - Engineer in Plymouth, MN

I worked at Honeywell full-time (less than an year)

Pros

* Pay was adequate
* Plenty of free parking (I can't think of another plus...)

Cons

* Very poor micromanager (now gone from company)
* Inane two week vacation offering to senior level applicants. No negotiation possible.
* Absurdly poor and underfunded IT department
* Lean/5S culture adopted was somewhat extreme (don't forget to adjust the position of your desk phone when you leave at night.)
* New employees were strongly, creepily, pushed to give to the almighty Honeywell PAC.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

* Offer more than two weeks vacation for senior level people, or watch people refuse offers of employment.
* Adequately fund IT departments. One person on site for 400 workers was a demonstrated disaster.
* Don't push the influence peddling Honeywell PAC so hard to new employees, to try to get them to donate. Some people actually have intact business ethics, and believe hired guns in Washington are not a net plus.
* This may come as a shock, but the concentration of wealth and power by a few at the top of the Honeywell hierarchy is good for just those few, but bad for the 99% of normal employees. Really.

    I worked at Honeywell full-time

    Pros

The Kansas City plant provides fairly secure employment and a reasonable work life balance

    Cons

The culture is a "good ole boys" network where who you know is more important than what you do. People are more focused on who to blame rather than working together as a team. They don't want to be put in the "elbow" (lowest 10%) and fired, so they deflect blame to protect themselves. The Engineering group feels that they own the place. The HR team is clueless and measured on getting 10% of the employees fired each year. Health insurance is horrible. A family is out of pocket $8000 before everything is paid 100%. Raises were non existent for 2 years and very low when you get one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and realize this is 2013 and the good ole boy network should have died years ago. Hire an HR Director who is focused on helping employees grow, rather than earning his bonus for firing people. All in all, it was the worst employment experience of my life working for you people.

I have been working at Honeywell full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay if you are incoming.
    Dedicated employees
Better then most in the way of training their employees for their job.

    Cons

They constantly claim they have no money to give pay raises, its been 1% and 2% for any that do get one but most people have not gotten a pay raise in at least 4 or 5 years. Yet they had record profit margines this year and just purchased a 50 million dollar company.

They carry their own health coverage that has you paying 100% up to $3000 then they cover 80% till you hit $6000 out of pocket and its expensive as any real insurance plan around $4000 a year for coverage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

David Cote's leadership earns profits from the people Honeywell hires. Honeywell is the insurance provider so collects all the insurance premiums and in turn they make it very unpleasent to seek out health care due to the costs. Couple that with no one getting pay raises, and thats a lot of profit on the books....

While the employees at Honeywell have been very understanding over the past few years, I think this year Honeywell will take a major hit in their experianced personel. 4 and 5 years with out payraises while honeywell successes are sung out in email every week., Some of these guys are making half of what other companies will pay them and honeywell hires new guys with no product knowlage well above the current staffs saleries.

I think this year they will loose a lot of their most talented staff but of course this is just my opinion.
