I worked at Honeywell full-time for less than a year

Pros

Company worked hard to get you nice ergonomic desks - you pick out your chair, mouse, they set up everything ergonomically correct. They had a nice (but small) gym & even offered training. Picnic tables outside were nice when the weather was warm. Close to lake - escaped to walk around the lake when I couldn't take it anymore. Did offer 3 sigma training.

Cons

Contract I worked required 42 hrs/week for 40 hrs pay. Even if you didn't have work to do, you were required to put in your "green" time. No pay for travel time but you could accumulate green time if you travelled. Ridiculous work that made no sense - busy work that didn't add value. Cube farm had street names so you could find your way around. No real break room. Weird safety briefings required daily - if you didn't hold the handrails on the stairs you could get fired! Many good sub-contractors laid off and treated badly.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't badmouth you sub-contractors who helped win the contracts for you. Don't allow workers to badmouth co-workers. Think of better ways to get the job done in an effective manner vs, just creating so much fluff that the govt will not have time to review it all.

I have been working at Honeywell

    Pros

Great company to be able to work on a variety of projects and types of programs. Great people to work with at multiple levels.

    Cons

Being part of a huge company there is a lot of bureaucracy to deal with just to get your job done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the systems put in place are pushed to be company wide. Being that the company is quite diverse, some of these systems are just not appropriate for all business units. Try to set up a way to get feedback on how to remove some of these items where not appropriate.
