I worked at Honeywell full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Senior management with consistency over time, great acumen for acquisitions, good focus on getting company positioned into markets with growth potential.

Just look at the stock price over last ten years, in good economies and bad ones, and you'll see the values and processes they put in place have worked.

Cons

Sometimes overly centrally controlled, often overly rigorous performance management system that does account for market reality.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the focus, ensure you keep the people that make the business run. Account for work-life balance with younger employees as a way of keeping them.

I worked at Honeywell (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good safety record. Good life/work ratio

    Cons

They use the infamous 9 block process to get rid of 10% of the workforce. Essentially, they have to make up issues or blow them out of proportion to find reasons to give someone bad marks.
They waste government funding for security clearances and waste people away working under fear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pull away from Honeywell as a prime contractor. It is not good for your business. At one time, it was a great place to be. Now, it is a place to avoid. Young people do not stay because you don't offer them anything. Older employees become part of the 10% reduction.

I have been working at Honeywell full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The Honeywell Operating System (HOS) is outstanding. Built like the Toyota Production System, it engages people and allows them to focus on the most critical aspects of the business - every day.

    Cons

Respect and appreciation of employees can be enhanced by eliminating "skullduggery" and bad politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look beyond politics for real contributions and don't overlook local contributors who like living and working in rural areas.
