I have been working at Hoosier Energy

Pros

Hoosier is more than willing to spend money on helping their employee's educations. That being said they are not willing to give any type of raise for extra credentials.

Cons

Like most utility companies there is an old school mindset. New technologies and ideas will only be used as a last resort to solve a problem. Also, since the company is so small there is no room for advancement unless people with more experience in the company retire.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer an incentive plan for employees that obtain higher educational degrees and accreditation in their field of expertise. There needs to be some sort of way to continue to motivate employees that don't feel like there is any way to move up in a company without older generations retiring.

I worked at Hoosier Energy as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Fit into my schedule as a student and always worked around major life events/travel. Not working on all major holidays was also a plus. Everyone was always willing to help and solve problems

    Cons

In the position I held there were sometimes very long hours involved but in comparison to the pros, it was really nothing.

I have been working at Hoosier Energy full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits for the area
Hoosier provides lots of onsite and offsite training opportunities
    Great employee tuition reimbursement plan

    Cons

Hoosier seems to suffer from a lack of turnover - so many people have been in the same positions for so long that their is an incredible buildup of tribal knowledge without many formal procedures
    Overtime demands can be exhausting

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
