I worked at Horizon Retail Construction

Pros

Horizon's corporate culture is great. There is a camaraderie among the staff that allows for community within the organization. The company is organized into teams on different accounts consisting of one Senior PM, one to several PM's, and a few Assistant PM's.
They are equipped with a technological advanced way of conducting business.

Cons

The Senior PM's very often too busy to make individual growth and mentor opportunities an important part of working at Horizon.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management of Horizon Retail should take more stock in their employees and promote individual growth through ongoing training opportunities.

I have been working at Horizon Retail Construction full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

large client base, so there is always work and you build a verity of stores
If you know what you are doing they let you alone to do it !
Travel, and plenty of it, if you like that, we work all over the US and Canada

    Cons

large client base, so you don't often do the same store multiple times
If you don't know what you are doing you don't get much help from the office, PM's are overwhelmed
Travel, and plenty of it, your on the road 11 months a year with little or no down time!
    very short build schedules

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you say it's a family first company, and it may be if your in the office!
But if your in the field, the office could care less that you have family
If you want to retain employees try to give them some downtime !!

I worked at Horizon Retail Construction full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you are looking to travel all the time and work 7 days a week managing poor subs and dealing with the idiots, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Many, the retail construction market is seasonal and absolutely not a family friendly career. I have done this kind of work for over ten years and will never do this kind of work again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advise, the people running these kinds of company's no that you will eventually burn out, or worse. I only work for this company 4 months and was laid off after working 28 days straight 10 to 18 hours a day. To be fair the retail construction market is just brutal and after 39 successful years in the industry I quit.
