Pros

they have great training program to develop you for a recent college grad
the pay is decent. really isn't as great as some people put it considering amount of hours you work

Cons

you will work for a lot of incompetent managers which can be very very stressful
long hours and no work life balance
small city with barely anything to do for young professionals
barely any room for growth with no diversity what so ever

Advice to ManagementAdvice

develop a better way for work life balance
evaluate your managers. most are just talkers

Doesn't Recommend
Neutral Outlook
No opinion of CEO

Decent place to work. Best if you're right out of college

I have been working at Hormel full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay. Good benefits. If you're right out of college you can have a great career. They do a great job of providing training. They're very concerned about safety. Very financially conservative and stable company. They have a lot of long time employees.

    Cons

It's a hard place to fit in if you're midcareer and you have ideas outside of the way they do it. Not a lot of forward movement if you're in the smaller plants. There seems to be a lot of young people far in their career that have big egos.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of learning to recognize the people who work hard want to move forward and provide them with opportunities for advancement. And get over yourself. It's just food.

Great Company! A bit small minded

I have been working at Hormel

    Pros

The managment at Hormel truly care about the success of their employees. There is great opportunity to grow within the organization making promotions common and expected. Coming out of college the salary is competitive. Overall enjoyable place to work.

    Cons

Relocation is a necessity. Vacation is very limited (10 days for the first 3 years). The company is the opposite of progressive which can be very frustrating for young talent and even our customers. The corporate offices are in Austin MN, this embodies the small town feel of the company and is probably the foundation of many issues within the company culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A lot of people are leaving the company, simple changes could be made to prevent this .
