I worked at Hot Topic full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

40% off discount on most merchandise, including sale items. 20% off on CD's and electronics.
Regular pay
Monthly Bonus Program

Cons

DM demanded "feedback" but actually wanted a plan of action to achieve better KPI and sales results. Being asked to respond to 5 or more emails everyday when the HQ directive was to spend less time behind the counter was a major contadiction.
Pushing denim to customers that were already loyal to other brands. Hot Topic missed the boat on being a denim destination and would NOT LET IT GO!
Pigeon holing of tenured management members.
Lots of turnover of tenured managers in the last 6 months
Not enough payroll to accomplish workload
Little to no growth

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're losing all of your experienced, loyal managers. Maybe this is an isolated phenomenon in Columbus, OH but I suspect to improve profit margins the turnover of higher payed, tenured management is the M.O.

I worked at Hot Topic part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It used to be an amazing place to work. Body mods are fine and the environment was relaxed and fun.

    Cons

Used to be the key word. Hot Topic tries to make a big deal about how much their employees love working for them and how great they treat them. This is all BOGUS they really could not care at all. After our SM left the DM decided to promote one of his personal friends from Jacksonville to the position. Our Key and ASM quit so it was up to me to train them. After they were trained and up to speed I was terminated under false pretense by the SM. Had never received a write up or any kind of disciplinary warning. Had never even been late for work.
