I have been working at Houston Housing Authority

Pros

Good management from company leadership. I've really enjoyed my time here. The Houston Housing Authority has a great mission and sticks to that mission.

Cons

Currently, the only downside of working there is the condition of the building, however, that should be rectified sooner than later.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Right now, the Houston Housing Authority has a great leadership team in place. All of the Vice Presidents are very competent.

I have been working at Houston Housing Authority full-time for more than a year

    Pros

HHA has flexible work schedules and opportunities to transfer to different positions within the company.

    Cons

The caseloads are very heavy and while there is no hesitation to pile on more work, many barriers are put in place against pay increases. There is no accountability to the Executive level for how case workers are treated by supervisors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to find a way to pay employees better. The pay is not worth the stress. I think case workers would feel better about the low pay if the supervisors had better management skills. Your supervisors are causing you to lose good employees. Employees leave work stressed to the limit and hate coming to work the next day. The Board needs to become more involved in HHA operations.

I worked at Houston Housing Authority

    Pros

-Flexible schedules/ PTO and dress code are good - Not too strict
    - Will gain massive amount of customer service experience
-They provide training and certification for Section 8
    - It feels great to know you have helped a family settle into a home when you complete a case.
    - Good amount of paid holidays are observed
-If you don't like working in groups and would rather keep to yourself -- this is the place for you.

    Cons

    - Low Pay and overworked -- Unreasonable quotas are given at times.
    - Constant threats about consequences/termination for not meeting that quota
    - Disrespct from certain people in upper management positions. They do not listen to ideas you have to improve the company or your department -- WIll take things personally and see that they find anything on you to have you terminated or moved.
    - Benefits are not thta great -- No annual raises or bonuses.
    - Horrible communication
    - No room for advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into the way some supervisors are running certain departments, specifically Intake. Provide management skills training to supervisors -- they do not know how to communicate professionally with staff. Look into people who are being hired -- A few people have come forward to say that they were called and asked if they wanted a job, they had one -- no formal application/interview -- That is not fair hiring. Learn to acknowledge and reward the lower tier staff who are the ones keeping this company running.
