    I worked at Howard County Public Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Howard County is a great school system to work for. They have decent entry level pay with great benefits. I really enjoyed working in such a supportive work environment at my school.

    Cons

    Work life balance as a teacher was quite difficult. Not enough time is given for planning lessons. Updates to certain schools are a necessity as well as making sure that teachers have access to new technology to use in the classroom. More money should be provided to teachers (especially in an elementary school) to purchase necessary items for the classroom. The new Common Core Curriculum is too rigorous for little ones yet not rigorous enough for older students. Having to prove that you are an effective teacher by writing up reports and submitting artifacts for SLO's takes away too much time from planning effective lessons.

    Give teachers more time for planning, provide more support for 1st year teachers
