Current Employee - Associate Professor in Washington, DC

I have been working at Howard University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The best reason to work at Howard University as a tenured Professor is the students and the freedom of time. For a working stiff it is the closest thing to being free.

    Cons

The downsides are that the organization is generally inefficient and the pay is lousy! The poor pay comes with the territory of not really having a lot of management oversight for the faculty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise salaries for those that perform well (the carrot), hold those that do not perform well accountable (stick).

    Cons

Psychotic middle and upper management. Faculty, students treated like criminals. Campus falling apart.
