I worked at Huawei Technologies

Pros

As a European, it was an eye-opening experience into the Chinese Business model and culture. My work colleagues were very good people, highly skilled and educated.

Cons

Seemed unwilling to take on change and adapt to meet market conditions. I often found that some of my ex-pat colleagues seemed unwilling to innovate and improve when the option for referring to HQ was available, which often reduced efficiency and left matters to established processes. I sometimes found that a favourable attention was garnered by the Chinese ex-pat staff sent from HQ, at the expense of local staff, and turnover was high.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your local staff on occassion, discuss and review, if the company were to adapt its strong Chinese origins and core working practices and combine them with local business models it could be stronger in the marketplace.

I have been working at Huawei Technologies

    Pros

Some staff care about company, but not many.

    Cons

Very heavy (more than 85%) chinese staff presence with ALL senior positions for chinese only. Token titles and positions with no power of influence occasionally given to local employees for account patronage reasons or a belief that it will win them a project.

Chinese language is still primary company language, staff try to speak english but the proficiency is generally low and quite often its a very much a hit and miss affair if people understand!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work VERY hard to globalise the company or you will be left with nothing! ZTE are not far behind and there are other players emerging.

I have been working at Huawei Technologies

    Pros

There are 2 reason why it is best working in Huawei. The first one is the remuneration package. They usually pay higher than standard thus it is a avery good choice for those chasing to increase their salary. Second is because of the knowledge. Huawei has a very good knowledge portal sharing. You can really learn a lot of telecommunication solutions and equipments. By knowing this, it surely will help you in your future undertaking.

    Cons

Every company have their downsides as well. For Huawei, one of them is they really work you to the bone. Although they are paying you more than normal, the workload is even greater. But take it as a challenge as you will learn a lot from it. Another matter is the communication problem. I think this is the biggest problem. Foreigners have a really hard time to adjust and work with Chinese from the mainland. They seem to be more close and hard to share things

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please improve the company cultural different fast. Huawei are going fast and strong to conquer the global market yet the communication and cultural problem is still there. Education need to be enforce to ensure open communication and be applied effectively. It is not too late but if things are taken for granted, you will lost a lot of good global resources.
