Former Intern - Legal Intern in New York, NY

I worked at Human Rights First as an intern (less than a year)

Pros

Flexibility, friendly environment, not so demanding. It really all depends on your supervisor.

Cons

If you desire to start a career there, an internship is not going to help. They pretty much give you your assignment and then forget who you are. Very sad because such a good organization should take care of their alumni better.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage interns and respect them. They may come back int he future and add tremendous value to your team.

I have been working at Human Rights First full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good set of people to work with, issues are great and the communications team is on top of their game. The organization is on a growth path. Great work/life balance.

    Cons

Like any nonprofit, sometimes decision making is slow. But the organization is actively changing that.

I worked at Human Rights First as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Unpaid internships are only heard of in the legal industry. That is what I had here, so I can't speak about benefits and salary, but I was treated right and learned. It is great for students seeking some experience.

    Cons

Non-profits can't provide certain perks most companies can. You really have to like the subject matter or it could become boring.
