Humana – “dead-wood won't float a company forever”
1 of 1 people found this helpfulPros
Job stability is a real plus. This work environment is very large and you can find people here that are truly dedicated to working to improve healthcare and the member experience. The environment is really entrepreneurial and new initiatives can be initiated at small levels fairly easily for a Fortune 100 company.
Cons
It is a gigantic company that lacks true cohesiveness. Leadership has a tendency to be selected via seniority over talent/skills and that favors the persistent or lethargic employee therefore middle management ends up being the most ruthless and CYA-ish group which deters true thought and true innovations. Humana does not reward to its own vision. The employees that stay are mediocre at best and have a tendency to be like their middle-managers lethargic and resistant to work. The company is fragmented into deep silos even within its departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Actually reward your employees based on the vision and strategies that are outlined. Hire systematically the best employees and consider systematically removing "dead" weight regardless of seniority. Our fragmented culture is killing our ability to respond to our customers and we are not able to sustain employee moral because people can't accomplish anything of true value.
