Pros

Humana provides a lot of room for career growth in a variety of different areas. It is also a complex and ever-changing environment that affords new challenges from day-to-day.

Cons

Working for a large company can mean that things move slowly. This can be frustrating if you see a need for change.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that Humana needs to focus more on the daily operations of the company than large, risky initiatives. Invest more in making sure our customers and members have perfect information. We need to be on the cutting edge by listening to our members and not being afraid to implement ideas not currently in use by competitors.

Humana is a good stepping stone into the insurance business

    Pros

Management track, flex time, opportunities for growth. Many opportunities if you work hard, and also they take into consideration what area you enjoy working in. They also are starting to have more people work from home which can be great for those with small children.

    Cons

At times felt like factory work, or like you were in school still the way you were watched but probably necessary because some people take advantage. If you have a sick child it can be difficult to take time away from work, again some people take advantage so they are very strict on sick time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward good employees. While it is necessary in today's world to treat all employees the same, it is also important to create a work environment where you feel as though your hard work is appreciated and rewarded.

    Great ideas, mediocre execution

    Pros

If you're in Louisville, KY, Humana must be on your short list. Overall, Humana has a generally good benefit package. I've worked with both some of the most brilliant and some of the most incompetent people in my career, often at the same time. Some areas within Humana are fantastic--likely, some of the best in the business. Just make sure you get into one of those areas of excellence.

    Cons

A very large organization with not very good coordination. A very large disconnect between VP and above and directors and below. Lack of accountability in some areas, especially at the mid-senior level. Unfortunately, incompetence is tolerated at some areas within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to get their heads out of the clouds and focus on the basics. Innovation and the future is great--but if you can't execute it doesn't matter what your plans are.
