Pros

Money and job-title inflation. You can get in and be assigned responsibilities far beyonf your experience

Cons

Money and work hours. Punishing deadlines. Lots of responsibility without the authority to execute or to push back.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group

    Pros

The culture is very young and collegiate. The people are generally nice and are willing to teach you. They have a coaching system that mentors young staff. Depending on what division you fall into, the work can be very interesting. The management at the service line level do try look out for you.

    Cons

Depending on the service lines, the work can range from interesting to down right boring. The compensation structure is similar to the Big Four accounting firm so it's below the average for some of the divisions. They have a big issue with retention as employees don't stay past 2 years. Again, this may be due to compensation and the lack of interesting work. Huron tries to invest in their people, but they do not have management that can sell the work. A lot of the consultants are sitting empty doing busy work instead of actual work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Management needs to sell some interesting work to keep their junior staff motivated and busy.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group

    Pros

Fast growing firm, broad base of consulting opportunities

    Cons

Public company does not always align incentives properly, performance management and career advancement is poorly defined and/or inconsistently applied across and within groups

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ivory Tower approach traditionally taken in the Big 4 does not work well in a small/mid-sized firm. People need to feel connected to leadership - when the most communication we get in a six month period from our CEO is damage control regarding questionable pressure for donations to presidential ad campaigns, something is not right. More communication from the top geared towards how Huron cares about employees, values careers, is working towards and implementing programs to define strong career tracks, good stories about accomplishments, etc. Seems easy but very positive when morale is questionable following recent layoffs in the firm and announcements to Wall St. analysts that earnings are guiding downwards (and therefore bonuses).
