I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work life balance. Ability to work remotely, if you stay away from Delivery Centers. A great community of wonderful, hard working, innovative people excluding most with Manager Flag=Y above 2nd line. Opportunity to work with leading edge technology if you work in services on commercial customer systems... internally is great if you are into retro 90's technology!!

    Cons

Limited to no salary growth. Top performers (30-40% of employee base in the US) have been lucky to receive 2% or less in "merit increases" annually. All others... nothing. Career growth is extremely limited. 80% of IBM's business is managed via Spreadsheets. Very little investments internally in adopting the technology solutions we sell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value to the shareholder won't be attainable if you don't take care of your most critical resource... Your people. Let's not forget Wall St is located in New York not Beijing or Bangalore...

I worked at IBM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility and diversity. It's a large company and if you get in the right department, you have a chance to move to different areas.

    Cons

Expected more and more to be done with fewer people and moving more jobs offshore. Salaries don't even keep up with inflation any more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It used to be that loyal, dedicated, skilled employees were rewarded and secure but that's no longer the case. IBM doesn't follow their own values - so disappointing to see in what was a great company. More concerned with profits than people.
