I worked at IBM

Pros

not much for me. i hear severance was decent but i couldn't hold out that long.

Cons

big companies aren't for me but the company i was with was acquired. i hung around too long as the company focused on cost reduction instead of product development and profit.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

good luck with those lay offs.

I worked at IBM as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

The people you got to work with were amazing. They were always helpful and we had fun.

    Cons

Management didn't care at all. Instead of doing their job one of the Managers would only organize her wedding and nothing else. Have no idea how she even got the position as she was clearly not qualified.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire a competent management team

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - good for graduates to get experience
    - good technical resources/knowledge
    - usually quick moves to different roles
    - leaders/management usually promoted to senior roles

    Cons

    - lack of support for professionals, you are expected to move to management position, if you are good in your professional area
    - generally lower salary vs competition for the same job
    - general move to internally outsource the jobs w/ decreasing quality of work (there seem to be no internal metrics for that)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide if you want to attract professional talent and pay for it, or keep just keep IBM as company of and for leaders.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
