Current Employee - Process Engineer in East Fishkill, NY

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Excellent Location. Relative close to NY city. Lot of restaurants

Cons

Managements here are usually disrespectful. Salary is not competitive. Very expensive area to live.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some managers from Process Dev. (Litho/Etch/INT) are disrespectful. They don't give you any opportunity to grow, they just play game for their own interest. They need to be less technical and focus more on management, look for better salary, empower your employee, HR. How much does it cost to say "THANK U"???????????

I worked at IBM full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Big company, many resources, lots of training opportunities

    Cons

    Too much emphasis on short-term results, quarter-end focus skews all work schedules and long-term planning; bureaucratic to the nth degree; stock options only for Band 10 and above, and most of the decisions are based on what it will do for/to the stock price; small or no pay raises, even for top performers;

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk in your employees shoes for a week--do you REALLY want to make THAT decision after you see how it affects them?

Mediocre work experience, with a few individual staff member exceptions, overall poor morale and internal culture.

Current Employee - Marketing Program Manager in Atlanta, GA

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Company offers wide variety of opportunities for different roles, career paths - IF you can get support of your manager.

    Cons

Very few opportunities to build interpersonal and team relationship(s) with colleagues and coworkers as most are work from home. Spend lots of time on conference calls with cast of dozens or more. Very slow movement on projects due to "too many cooks," political wrangling and landscape. Difficult to build trust, as many are individual contributors focus on impressing management and rather than focusing on projects that help move the organization forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend TOO much time on internal status updates - which seem to have little impact on results - internal reporting requires extreme amounts of bandwidth for staff members that could be better utilized on other projects. Spend too much time "weighing the pig than actually working to feed the pig."
