I worked at IBM full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Big brand name, from its long histories and the ThinkPad that it made in the past. A large research presence.

    Cons

Very poor management style, driven completely by sales. Sales are not professional, and the atmosphere is highly toxic and political, and the team is frustrated at what the leaders are doing.

I worked at IBM full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Colleagues are awesome, work content is challenging and interesting, ability to work at home, great interaction with clients, lots of potential to move around business units at the company

    Cons

20 hour work days and weekends are the norm for managers due to global team structure, expectations are total work overload, lack of work life balance, positions are not back-filled as promised, annual raises are pathetic or non-existent, requirements for advancement are ambiguous or poorly communicated, bottom line thinking prevails such that only sales related efforts are rewarded monetarily

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall change to the career advancement mechanisms and "pool of money" compensation review processes and incentive structures; closer attention to team staffing models: global team concept versus healthy lifestyles for your employees

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
