Pros

Working for IBM is working for one of the most innovative and successful technology leaders, who is around for over 100 years by now. The brand name is established well and their smarter planet initiative reached beyond the technology savvy audience. Inventions such as IBM Watson excites not just geeks and science nerds, but society. All in all IBMers are proud to work for the "Big Blue".

Cons

IBM is to big to even know what the company is doing all over the world, as a "regular" employee at least. Many internal processes and tools are used to run - to many for some. Products and services sold could be easily used inside IBM, but I guess to implement things at a worldwide level and such a diverse scale of employees and management takes time.

Advice to Management

As in any large cooperation there are bits and pieces (mainly processes) that could be improved, discontinued or introduced.

    Pros

Most departments discourage employees from working over time.

    Cons

The A/NZ sales and marketing community is sadly filled with dirty politics. Highly questionable behaviours abound that challenge even the company's own Business Conduct Guidelines. Sales directors openly have favourites, have pets, and support the agenda of these favourite few, and care very little about the rest and care very little about quiet achievers. Sadly top achievers have gone to competitors. It's all about appearance, the loudest, the good looking, and the most outgoing over competency. Employees and 1st line management are heavily micro-managed. Make no mistake, the sincere and hard working will not be promoted or awarded. The manipulative, the cunning, the politically savvy, and the highly aggressive fight for the opportunities and promotions. Be warned, your Manager will tell you roles are too high a Band, and refrain from recognising talent and skill in order that they may not need to justify salary increase, band increase, and keep you as resource for his or her own team's needs. Directors and Business Unit Executives tend exhibit Corporate Psychopath like behaviour. First line Managers are mostly terrible. Promotions are based on tenure rather than competency - hence the high attrition rate of young employees in the company.

    Advice to Management

Totalitarian leadership and playing favourites gets you a bad reputation, many of you already do, and it incites corruption among those reporting to you. Learn true Leadership of the people.
