I worked at IBM

Pros

IBM offered excellent benefits compared to others in the industry, they also do well at providing more than adequate training

Cons

Management seems to be blind that you can't continue on an exponential reduction of resources and believe that you can continue to do the same or better with less resources

Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop cutting muscle and build back strength to the company

I have been working at IBM

    Pros

Large corporation, so when there are economic good times, it's great to be able to move around to other organizations within IBM. When there are economic bad times, it's difficult to move around, and layoffs are secretive and are very bad for employee morale.

    Cons

Lots of layers of management, very top heavy. Sometimes all those managers get in the way of getting anything done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people, they actually know a thing or two

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

travel; intelligent co-workers; reputation; pay; technical excellence; access to high end resources

    Cons

travel; away from home; long hours; pay vs. hours worked equate to low salary; lack of continual education due to demands to be excessively billable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

give the employees time to learn away from having to be constantly billable. reduce the non-billing administrative waste and pump the cash to those on the front line; too many paper pushers not generating revenue; quite forcing "extra" hours per week/quarter just to make the quarterly goals to fool wall street....
