Stodgy, bureaucratic, and full of infighting

Research Staff Member (Former Employee)
Yorktown Heights, NY

ProsThey're not going to go out of business any time soon. There are some very very smart people there, and they might talk to you once in a while. They have nice buildings, but you won't get to work in one.

ConsThey are frickketty *HUGE*. Your project will get lost in the shuffle. The divisions of the company are perpetually in conflict. Your project will get cancelled when executives change, which happens every year or so. They have more bureaucracy and internal processes than the federal government. IBMers often spend years in miserable corners of the company. Pretty much *everyone* there is miserable much of the time though.

Advice to Senior ManagementMost of you (management) should cease to be management.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

For such a large corporation, IBM is very well managed and provides many opportunities.

    Technical Sales Manager (Current Employee)
    Dallas, TX

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

Pros: Home-based employees, great benefits, top-notch ethics, easily accessible management, decent work-life balance, unlimited training and learning opportunities. Change is… Cons: Complexity drives the downsides: too many account managers with different agendas; corporate processes and matrix structure can be overwhelming, especially for new employees. Rigidity, which… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend More
