I worked at IBM as a contractor (more than a year)

Pros

Nil, there is no reason to work here

Cons

People are disposable, don't bother going the extra mile, they don't care or appreciate it, it's expected . Then when they have no further use for you they make you redundant. Especially the ANZ Law Department, 8 redundancies at the same time they were recruiting. The replacements started on the same day the staff who were made redundant were leaving - Poor form IBM!!!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the lot of them, all in in for what they can get, they don't put in leave forms and take leave, they then accumulate their leave balances and take extended breaks. Oh and if your a woman, don't get pregnant, as soon as you do they want you gone.

    I have been working at IBM full-time

    Pros

    - some colleagues are really great,
    - relaxed atmosphere (at least within the technical community, usually not impacted by layoffs),
    - some great technology to build solutions upon.

    Cons

    - the majority of colleagues, especially upper-level managers, seem incompetent (or just stupid),
    - too many useless roles within the company, most of the people don't know much about IT but deal with incredibly slow and complex internal processes,
    - especially in latest years, the whole organization has been too focused on sales, completely forgetting customer satisfaction or even customer needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Sometimes it seems like you do all you can to slow down or destroy what your employees are doing. Please stop doing that, start valuing their contribution, and most importantly...
    TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS, not only in words, but also in facts.

    Access to latest technology
    Extensive market presence

    Cons

    Too focused on cost-cutting
    Too much work for remaining staff to adequately handle
    I saw a lot of talented people leave, little evidence they were replaced.

    Stop cutting everything to the bone.
