Advice to ManagementAdvice

This advice is for project managers, upline to the senior VPs.
When reviewing a project upon completion, do not make observations where the team needs to improve punitive.
If the result of a project review is to move the organization forward, it is imperative that trust and honesty is built into the culture. Unfortunately the unspoken message in East Fishkill is mistakes are detrimental to advancement/career.

IBM Senior Management no longer values the individual or customers. Avoid at all costs.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    *Work from home
    *Management is hands off
*Can't say much more for the positives, honestly was a stretch to put the above down.

    Cons

    *Management is dishonest
    *No Career Growth
    *Draconian treatment of employees
*No respect for the individual, or work life balance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget about the EPS target (also known as "Roadkill 2015"), and return to investing in our employees and customers. Short term personal gain for the executives should not be the primary concern for IBM... in fact it will be the death of an American Icon if not corrected very quickly.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Education opportunities, ability to work from home

    Cons

    - Poorly trained, unqualified first-line managers and no accountability for managers
    - Focus on appearances rather than output and quality
    - Culture of layoffs, insecurity, and fear
    - Performance evaluation system that rewards showmanship and competition among individuals rather than high quality work
    - Not agile
    - US workforce is actively being reduced and outsourced

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivation is all over the floor at IBM. Employees are quickly losing respect for a company that was once respectable. Don't ignore this. When your topi talent has more options, those talented workers will not choose IBM. The ones that are still at IBM (me included) just don't care anymore because they know it doesn't make a difference anyway.

Make better choices in who becomes first-line managers and train them to better understand their job roles and what is expected of them. Hold them accountable for leadership and personnel management.
