Pros

Good working environment. Flexible timings. Nice process outlined to manage your career within the organisation. Trainings.

Cons

The 'worst' in terms of compensation compared to other organisations. Our effort is directly linked to billing, meaning if you did a good job in your project and your utilisation is not up to the mark, then your effort is, simply put...ignored. Too much of policy dose from the managers. Bragging about the past achievements and their brand image. Employee referral is a complete catastrophe, no one ever has been placed in IBM referred by an employee..except may be by some managers. Everybody knows that HR and some consultancies have some 'illegitimate tie ups' and the only promote candidates from them. IBM is not transparent on this except for sending out repeated emails to its employees to refer candidates. The following comments are specfically to managers/Sr consultants in IBM Hyderabad - Managers in Hyd do not possess the capability to win over a customer, they cannot manage the careers of their employees, unprofessional attitude, hypocrites, encourage boot lickers, show bossism..and living examples I heard about are ....well..most of the managers :)

Advice to Management

Advice to managers in Hyderabad - Maintain a professional attitude towards junior employees, dont behave as if they are your slaves!! And fight for projects in Hyderabad location, we have good resources here.

care should be taken for employees. salary hikes should be only dependent on company's performance and not on market reviews.

If you join as a graduate, don't expect your pay to increase or to get a promotion anytime soon.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    1) Good Work Life balance. 2) Strong Brand name - looks good on Resume. 3) Access to IBM Software and Materials e.g. Websphere, Db2

    Cons

    1) Promotions are rarely given out (Especially if you started as a graduate) 2) Pay is well below market value (Especially if you started as a graduate) 3) Managers are usually in another location (or even interstate) and have no visibility of when you do good work 4) Technical Staff are not appreciated - End of year awards always seem to go to management and sales staff. 5) Performance ratings are done on a curve amongst your team (so it's not how well you do, but how well you do compared to the rest of your team.... and if your manager sees your good work) 6) Skillset is boxed into a particular IBM product e.g. Tivoli, DB2 etc. Little opportunity to cross skill in other areas. 7) Too many jobs being taken off locals and sent offshore.

    Advice to Management

IBM has annoyed a lot of employees, who eventually leave the company. Consequently they harbour much anti-IBM sentiment, and when they make decisions in their new companies. I deliberately do not give any business to IBM, and when we do have to work together I never do any favours for IBM or their current staff. Many other ex-IBMers do exactly the same thing.
