Current Employee - Manager  in  Buenos Aires (Argentina)
Current Employee - Manager in Buenos Aires (Argentina)

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Flexibility, Big company where you can learn almost anything, technically there are equipment that are not going to be found in smaller businesses

    Cons

Salaries, at least in Argentina are not the best. Poor raises structure based on current inflation rate makes you to loose your acquisitive power (this is related to a current country specific scenario)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think more on people and less in numbers and objectives, although the later are still important, what matter most is people.

Former Employee - Team Leader in Hyderābād (India)

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Encourages innovation.
    2. Probably one of the very few companies to provide Sick Leave on humanitarian grounds
    3. Good work life balance
    4. Flexibility to work from home and is not restricted to certain positions unlike in many companies
    5. Effective utilization of resources

    Cons

    1. Work in compensation, probably all you can get is what you can bargain the first time
    2. Manager driven company where employee has no say
    3. HR in IBM India isn't effective at all, sharing an issue with HR is directed to the manager which is ridiculous.
    4. Managers keep you on your toes without even knowing what they want and what they are looking for at the end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Stop promoting managers who have no idea what kind of people they are managing. Everyone can not be managed with same set of management principles. You can not manage a highly technical with same skills that you would use to manage a sales guy.
    2. Make HR processes more transparent and stop HR's from disclosing the issues to the direct manager. It should be handled independently by HR team and involve managers only to get information to confirm the authenticity of the issues.
    3. Stop concentrating on number of years of experience required for certain position rather evaluate an employee based upon his knowledge skill set. You might be missing out on a good resource just because he has 5 years of experience and the requirement for the position is 6 years. And this happens because the final round of interview happens with managers who have no clue what they really need, all they know is experience makes a man perfect so let me just concentrate on years which is ridiculous.
