I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

IBM is not an easy place to work but Im not looking for that and if you are then its not for you. Its hard work, everyday. Challenging. Big company clients with big real world problems. If you want a challenge, want to work with some of the brightest minds, and shape the future of business then IBM is right for you.

Cons

Its not easy to get promoted from within. Having done it myself though I can say its at least possible.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the balance towards promoting from within those with the skills clients need most. Accelerate promotions as needed to retain the best talent.

    Pros

May have an opportunity to be relocated to China before your position is outsourced to a growth nation leaving you no way to get home

    Cons

The company is not interested in diversifying its workforce. Too much focus on moving jobs out of the United States to low cost labor and low skilled labor. Company is forcing too much pressure on employees to meet unrealistic revenue objectives which will end up in numerous ethical issues making front page news on a regular basis once the regulators figure out what they are doing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give up on the 2015 roadmap to disaster.

IBM India - Company is too big to value employees. HR policies are not employee friendly.

    Pros

Brand name. Larger pool of projects

    Cons

Unfriendly HR policies. Promotions are really slow and based on politics and not on performance. No salary hike when onshore. Frequent manager changes. Unfair appraisal and ratings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more value to employees and look at promotions seriously. Divert the time and energy spent on trying to avoid giving promotions and use it towards better HR management. Remove HR function from managers and reallocate to people who are trained in HR functions. Manager is too powerful in this organisation and this had led to widespread corruption and blatant violations of BCG's by managers. BCG should not be applicable only to junior and senior engineers. Managers should be held in check.
