I worked at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

great people, great technologies. This was a great place to work. Allowed for growth in professional arena. First manager was amazing. He understood the work load and he worked for us.

Cons

hours are not best, sometimes the expectations of the road warrior is such that it puts us in danger. personal manager was not versed in what the team actually did. This appeared to be a thing of put them in place to fail but at our expense.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn the position you manage. one manager knew what the field team dealt with but new manager did not take time to find out what and why things were done in the way they were.

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It was a job that paid mediocre wages.

    Cons

Americans competed with international, IBM sponsored employees who trained here, then took the function back to their their home countries (India and Brazil in particular).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

From an employee perspective, IBM not a good company to work for. If you worked at home, they piled 60 - 70 hours of work while paying you 40. If you worked at a site, you hated getting up in the morning

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

life/work time flexibility > good for working moms

    co-workers

    Cons

    >job security > no such thing anymore
    >The company I started and was proud of, no longer exists and that's truly sad!
    >opportunity growth > unless someone dies or is resourced action, younger folks don't have an opportunity get promoted.
    >no team cohesiveness >Tend to work on projects
    >Remote team> Not being part of the main stream product team and its location, tends to >make remote team feel insignificant in its drive and contributions to the whole product.
management > low level manager are stuck with carrying out marching orders from above instead of developing and cross training individuals

    > benefits are disappearing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share the wealth across the company and its workers.
Recognize that the younger employees will be the future of the company. Quick laying off seasoned workers. They are needed to pass the torch to younger ones!
