Pros

IBM tries to take care of the top performers and give you an opportunity to move around and try different roles like technical, management, sales, services.
Overall I enjoy working here

Cons

As you would expect from a company this size, bureaucracy runs rampant and sometimes takes too long to get into new markets. Lots of people who spend a lot of time creating paper work of no value

Advice to Management

    Pros

World-class benefits include excellent health insurance coverage, and dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% on your 401k.

There are myriad career growth opportunities, with strong encouragement to increase and broaden your skills. Example, Ginni Rometty's challenge for employees to devote 40 hours to self-directed personal development.

If you live to work, you can really go far in the company.

    Cons

Salary tends to be lower relative to other companies, and raises are small. The best way to get a raise is to go to another company.

While there are many career paths, those opportunities, your direct manager plays a significant role in making those options a possibility. Additionally, much of that personal development must be done on your own time.

The "relative contribution" method used for annual reviews leaves employees in the dark about where they stand.

  2. Great global footprint, strategic long term thinkers, theme of innovation, somewhat separated from reality

    Pros

Range of opportunities from traditional high tech mfg. and sales, to software, to professional client services

    Cons

Glut of under performing baby boomers protected by their network and longevity

    Advice to Management

Globally integrated enterprise is only meaningful when you can explain to a client what the transformation road map really looks like
