I have been working at IBM

Pros

Provides a very good environment for work life balance - the support is just awesome. You also get to work with people of various calibers coming from diverse backgrounds.

Cons

It is a set of independant companies competing with each other. The pay is substantially below the local market, but is presented to you as if you are earning a few percentage points above the market value. Its a mystery where HR gets these figures.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are savvy enough to see beyond the facade that management raises. It would help resolve some of the issues plaguing the company by treating them as partners instead.

I have been working at IBM

    Pros

It is a job where most of work from any place.

    Cons

IBM almost forces you to work from home, so they do not pay internet connection or office space rent. 55 hr work weeks are common and do not get vacation time when scheduled.
Reduce employee count without realining duties.
1% pay increase for 2+ performer and 2% bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share the wealth as the everyday employees are the ones who interact with customers. Money should be available for training. Stop purchasing other compainies products when we make the same thing such as storage, we have 3par and hitachi in inventory

IBM has forgotten its legacy and is dead set on re-inventing itself.....at the expense of the people that built it up.

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

If you are focused on moving up the corporate ladder and playing politics you can go far in IBM, regardless of your talent level, but you will have to re-locate.

    Cons

You never know when your time is up, regardless of how well you do from a numbers standpoint. There is never any feeling of comfort, always worry that you will be the next to go. IBM has drastically changed as a company and it is all about EPS, period.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide regular feedback and updates to your team. If someone is struggling and they don't reach out to you, do the right thing and reach out to them and offer assistance and guidance versus letting them spiral until it's too late.
