I worked at IBM

Pros

Benefits are wonderful. Lots of job security once you're in and doing well. They keep you till your old. Pay is pretty competitive. Team leaders are brilliant people.

Cons

Extremely bureaucratic and political. You work with some developers who aren't the sharpest at their game, but surprisingly no one gets let go. Some code so slowly or use outdated tools it's amazing anything ends up working. Products ship with many deferred defects because some developers can't get their work done.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Periodically train developers with new technologies or recommend tools to keep them from becoming inefficient.

Hard to focus on work while you wait to be the next one up for layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

There is good work/life balance. The amount that the company matches for the 401k is higher than any other place I have been. The flexible work schedule is great. You can work from home anytime you want.

    Cons

Carrer growth can be difficult unless you are willing to move to another region of the country or even out of the country. There seems to be lots of job losses in the areas where there is higher cost of living. There are frequent layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to look at the overall picture rather than the quarterly numbers to see if they have a profit. It seems like the company culture is broken once employees are full time work at home.
