I have been working at IBM

Pros

Provide opportunities to acquire skills in different areas through education, on the job training. Great work environment - team work, flexible (promote work from home).
Have many organization with different mission and products provide the opportunity to work with different product sets, and different team culture.

Cons

Since IBM has many divisions with different mission and product sets, the employee will not have an overall understanding of the different organization products and strategy.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management team especially 1st line didn't have much of the decision making for the compensation for their employees. Need to give the 1st line management team more lead way to compensate their employees.

I have been working at IBM

    Pros

The technical talent at IBM is unparalleled. Working with smart engineers and developers is one of the primary perks of IBM.

    Cons

The company is being taken in an unfortunate direction by upper management. Aggressive attrition of the US workforce is causing loss of incredible talent, and leaving abysmal morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your technical talent is your biggest asset. Lose it at your peril.

I have been working at IBM

    Pros

It was a good place to work when I first started working in 1998. They used to pay for tuition reimbursements and provide professional classes to take every year. The bonuses used to good and was a good environment to work in.

    Cons

With the recent job cuts the morals for US employees have gone down. The goal is to get US based employees to below 100K and increase the headcount in India which is already above 90K. Most employees work way too much overtime and most are stressed out. Most people are worried about loosing their jobs. There is no work life balance at IBM. Most people work from home. Most managers are not qualified to be managers and lack the education or certification in Management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management really needs to treat employees like human beings instead of a serial number. I would encourage management to look at the big picture and do what is ethical.
