Approves of CEO

Pros

The work is always different, and the oppuritunity to work across multiple disciplines. The availablity of information, from marketing talking points to low-level technical details is excellent. An extraordinary amount of freedom to solve customer problems

Cons

Travel is required at times, in the present air travel 'experience' this is a bit of a hassle.

Advice to Management

I work too darn low in the food chain to be able to even think of any advice to give to Senior Management. As long as they do not interfere with my ability to do the work I am a happy camper.

Under Sam Palmisano, IBM has steadily gone from a company that valued it's employees to just another body shop.

Current Employee - IT Specialist in Boulder, CO
Current Employee - IT Specialist in Boulder, CO
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

IBM offers excellent opportunites for career growth.

    Cons

IBM touts a "Work/Life Balance" policy, yet expects its employees to work an average of 5 hours of overtime per week. IBM also recently reclassified over 7000 IT Specialists from salary to hourly, reduced their pay by 15%, and told them they could make it up with overtime. However, that overtime is not available on all contracts.

    Advice to Management

Restore all IT Specialsist to their previous pay and salaried status and either remove requirements for expected overtime or reduce paid time off days to reflect actual days allowed without employees being required to make them up with overtime.
