Pros

Great place to work for upward mobility if you work hard and upward mobility is fairly good too.

Cons

The salaries and bonuses are poor compared to other Beltway consulting companies.

Advice to Management

Encourage staff to talk freely about their professional outlook and experiences at ICF International.

    Pros

Christmas Party is one of the best in DC. Very competitive salary and decent benefits. Organization is respected in the community.

    Cons

The company doesn't know what to do with military operations research analysts. Some managers and BD staff expect 100% billable employees to put in uncompensated overtime.

    Advice to Management

Don't look the other way when managers make 100% direct billable employees work uncompensated overtime for a proposal or some other business development project. It isn't right.

    Pros

    - One word: people. I have made many friends through ICF and I would hate to leave most of the co-workers at my level. People are mostly down to earth, friendly, and not excessively competitive. - It's a great entry-level opportunity to get a taste of the "real world" before grad school - Flexibility and work-from-home opportunity is excellent

    Cons

    - Lack of professional development/career growth - the company uses young entry-level labor, pays them poorly, and expects 100% to leave. When they stay because of excellent performance, no one knows how or bothers to develop them - Comically low pay for DC consulting in certain practices compared to similar positions at Booz, Deloitte, etc.

    Advice to Management

Extremely myopic corporate focus on utilization instead of profit seems ridiculous, especially because it's a lagging metric, and it serves to discourage training and development
