Pros

IHS has a unique value proposition in our market place. The combination of data products across four domains offers clients one-stop shopping that can't be found elsewhere.

Cons

Just as at most corporations, the decision making process can be slow.

I have been working at IHS

    Pros

Energy industry, established company, currently carry no debt.

    Cons

Slow moving organization, room for advancement is slim due to tenured employees. Management makes promises it does not keep.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop career development plan and reward high performing employees based on sound metrics.

I have been working at IHS full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Most colleagues seem to work close to 40 hours as a week in analyst roles.

It is a friendly environment, not too much infighting or politics.

    Ethical company.

Some travel, but not too much.

(For sure other people's experiences will vary. IHS is composed mostly of acquisitions so everyone is coming from a different background.)

    Cons

The company is rather ruthlessly driven by profit like many public companies.

The salaries are Ok to start, but the salary rises in the last few years have not even kept up with inflation meaning the only way to progress your salary is to leave.

Overcautious company determined to avoid the slightest risk of being sued.

Difficult to get the company to change their way of doing things. I often gave management advice based on my many years of experience based in an area, but they did the opposite based on company policy, prejudice or their own assessment.

IT systems are always a disappointment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay staff based on what they are worth, and pay rises should be 5-10% not 1-2%.
