IKEA Employee Review
IKEA – “Ikea job descriptions very misleading”
2 of 3 people found this helpfulPros
They are rather flexible in regard to schedule, they offer a good store discount, they have an employee cafeteria on premises, but mainly only available to "daytime" employees.
fellow employees are usually very friendly, and it is a good way to keep up with what is going on in the world
of decorating trends.
Cons
Job descriptions are very deceiving....everyone is a glorified stock clerk.
Most physical job I've ever had...and that was a "salesclerk".
They provide an employee cafeteria, but it closes at 5 PM...if you work at night, oh well, too bad.
Ikea gives the illusion of being very pro employee, but they are very demanding, they work you physically to the bone,
and they promote or give opportunities to the brown- nosers, not necessarily those capable.
A lot of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing...they say they want "feedback", but they really don't.
They have their "ways"...they don't want to change a thing. They just want you to be a "follower"....very cult like atmosphere and attitude. The higher ups think Ingvar is God....and they want you to think that too.
In order to "move up the ladder", you mostly have to be willing to relocate....rarely can you "move up" in your own store.
A bit like elementary school.....no one leaves at the end of the night until EVERYONE leaves....you often have to stay
for several hours AFTER the store is closed. Clean and Restock...Clean and Restock...Clean and Restock....
that is what you do when working at Ikea....regardless of your "title".
Advice to Senior Management
Don't overlook good and hard workers to instead give perks to the ones who brown nose, and don't necessarily "work".
Stop forcing this "Ingvar is God" attitude and mentality.....this is a retail store, not a cult, not a religion.
People don't have to bow down to Ingvar or his philosophies in order to be good, conscientious, hard working employees.
