It's pretty good for a retail job.

I have been working at IKEA part-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Even part-time coworkers can receive benefits, which is awesome. The company itself treats you really well. It's like they realize retail is horrible and want to make it as easy for you as possible. I also find that the other coworkers are usually great and a lot of fun to work with. There's rarely people I can't stand working with.

Cons

Dealing with the public. This is the biggest one. There's no really effective way for me to describe how terrible this is. Also, coworkers are given goals to try and achieve throughout the year. Sometimes these goals aren't bad, but other times they can be completely ridiculous. Plus it's hard to even work on them to begin with since you usually have other more urgent things to do.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop having so many meetings. They're all just about the same thing and kind of a waste of time.

    I worked at IKEA

    Pros

IKEA Corporate have may good points for co-workers; such as, “There’s a saying at IKEA companies that it’s okay to make mistakes - everyone does it. In fact, we think it’s a healthy way to learn and improve.” Or “…you get to work as a team member, have fun and get on with the job.”

    Cons

At IKEA Store level, you will quickly learn you have made a mistake if question why management treats people differently (based upon who they know). There are actually two teams: Managers have fun and Co-workers get on with the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate needs to look at what store management is doing not what they say they are doing.

I have been working at IKEA part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Amazing benefits for HL2 and above
    Flexible Scheduling
    Wearing jeans to work
    Environmentally responsible company
Genuine concern for employees well being and happiness
Co-worker purchase voucher to help buy furniture

    Cons

Benefits are expensive for part time co-workers (HL1)
New uniforms are worse than before
Poor management within Senior and Logistics Department
No much room or opportunity for advancement with company
Hard to get a worthwhile raise, (only comes around once a year and very meager if any)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Logs managers are a joke here, all talk and no real work for how much they get paid. Play favorites and have extremely poor training involvement as well as people and task management skills.
