I worked at IMF full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Everyday work with highly qualified economists and other professionals. Always a lot to learn, very good ressources and data. Very good experience.

Cons

Maybe sometimes too research oriented. It would have been great to be able to participate directly to a country mission

I have been working at IMF full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Diverse employees
    Great office spaces
Good benefits for everyone except American nationals
    Flexible working conditions

    Cons

    Promotion is non-existent.
Without a vigilant and active staff member assisting the staff member with a career opportunity, there is no opportunity at all. Most of the staff are pigeoned holed. For US nationals, particularly people of color the work experience will be difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The rule of fairness needs to be applied in every department of the organization. Promotion fairness needs to be applied to everyone. Networks need to be obligated to include all staff.

I worked at IMF full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fast-paced work, and working with international colleagues makes the experience very interesting. Obviously, researching cutting-edge policy issues is fascinating.

    Cons

The social atmosphere can take some getting used to. Parts of it are very much dominated by older, white American and European men, which can make the work setting feel very stiff and competitive.
