I have been working at IRS full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

The atmosphere is laid back and not too uptight. There are some opportunities for advancement and definately a secure job.

Cons

Currently in a hiring freeze due to limited government funds. Job openings are very, very competitive and the HR usually will disqualify you without actually looking at experience and just looking at time in grade or previous pay grades held.

Advice to Management

Rate employees fairly and actually help individuals advance throughout the organization.

I have been working at IRS full-time

    Pros

    * Good Benefits * Good Pay * No weekends * Holiday Pay *Understand tax laws and how government works

    Cons

Usual call center environment your micromanaged down to how long your in the restroom. Your calls are reviewed by supervisors an managers some who have no clue how to even do your job. Your pretty much chained to your desk rules change daily & some of the training instructors need to be removed from their trainer position because reading verbatim from the training manual is not an effective teaching method. No opportunity for growth because promotion is more on a buddy system with upper management. Would only recommend job if some one wants to learn more about the tax law, looks good on your resume or if you thrive in a call center environment.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more time to review new tax laws an changes also let employees do their job an cut down on the micromanagement because there are a lot of great employees that leave because they feel trapped and are tired of being treated like a child needing constant supervision. Cut out the buddy system of promotion an make sure that the people who review others job are able to do it themselves successfully.
