I have been working at IRS as an intern

Pros

Upward mobility is fast if you make the right friends
Many different offices to give you varied experience
Lots of locations to choose from

Cons

Career Opportunities are limited for innovative individuals
Must play the game to move forward
Promotions not communicated to anyone allowing for secrecy
Career development not encouraged

    Pros

    Good benefit package, fairly well defined hours

    Cons

    Everything else. Managers are demi-gods who make and destroy as they see fit. A highly unprofessional organization that pretends to be professional. Make no mistake, managers and other will let you know right away that you are in the lowest rung of the federal ladder

    Depending on job. Autonomy while woking.

    No raise for three years of already low pay.
