I worked at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only place to do space research in India.
As a CS guy the code you write will run on a satellite for its entire life.
Nothing can match the rush of a rocket launch at the workplace.
    Lot of benefits outside salary.

    Cons

CS and electronics guys work on age old technology phased out by the rest of the industry.
Get this- Code in a 28 year old programming language running on a 17 year old processor for a system designed 15 years ago. The code being compiled on a 21 year old machine with no way of porting it to a newer one and yet nobody is worried!! Most of the data verificaition (constants and documentation) gets verified manually even to this day.
No access to internet (whatsoever not even a search engine) or permission to take your phone/usb/electronic devices into the campus for security reasons.
    Not a competitive salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

"If its working then don't touch it" attitude found here is exactly the opposite to what is supposed to be seen in a space research organization. The real founding pillars have either retired or moved on to other organizations which means others equally good need to take over their roles. Emphasize the need for automation and use the available technologies of the information age.
