Former Employee - Adjunct Instructor in Spokane, WA

I worked at ITT Technical Institute as a contractor (more than 3 years)

Pros

Department chairs give adjunct instructors plenty of flexibility on how to teach materials to students. Materials are provided, including access to several types of media.

Cons

Students do not take an entrance exam so their abilities vary (a few couldn't write). Also, several were there just there to use their financial aid and had no interest in the program. Others (in talking about criminal justice program) had prior convictions which would preclude them from employment in the career field.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to provide flexibility and support the instructors when student/teacher issues arise.

I have been working at ITT Technical Institute full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It's rewarding to give individuals the chance to achieve their educational and career goals.

    Cons

As a Rep, most all your time is spent on the phone, calling to set appointments. So there's not much variety in your day. It does become boring and frustrating when after 100 dials, you may have only reached a handful of people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more resources on retention strategies. Attracting new students is not the only way to make money.

I have been working at ITT Technical Institute part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Supervisors are understanding, clean work environment.

    Cons

Schedule sucks, adjuncts are replaced, school downsizing even though they are making billions in profit. Instructors forced to work from full time to part time. When at one point you could advance, finds out you cant because they changed the rules and your degree doesn't count. Forces students to do online classes, not by choice. For one student to pay for a class, pays for two instructors, yet still focus on keeping the class size high, and reduce classes. Horrible management practices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please stop thinking about money and try to give the instructors a decent wage they deserve. Without instructors there is no school.
