I worked at ITT Technical Institute full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Working with students. Coworkers are great.

    Cons

No room for growth. Micromanagement. Four months a year you work six days a week for four weeks. There may be surprise Saturday working when HQ springs a Phonethon or event on you. Insurance isn't great. Outrageous performance goals that aren't changed based on where you live. Work late two nights a week. Expected to perform right out of the gate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit changing things up every quarter and stop micromanaging. Warn people this is a SALES job when they come in for an interview. Tell them the expectations on the front end, not hire them only to fire them in 3 months.

Scammers of Unsuspecting, Low Income Individuals

I worked at ITT Technical Institute full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Their pay and raises are good.

    Cons

From an organizational standpoint, ITT is in the business of scamming. They prey on uneducated, low income individuals to come to their school with no entrance exam. Once in, they use a standardized curriculum that teaches very little. They encourage teachers to pass everyone in their class and, as such, a true picture of the student is never achieved. If someone comes in truly committed to their education, learns on their own, and is a very determined/studious person, they might be successful but most students that choose ITT don't have that foundation.

Once these students are set to graduate, it is virtually impossible to place them in "in field" jobs. The Career Services departments across the company have so much turnover, true relationships with employers in the area are impossible to maintain. Oftentimes, employers will hire the graduates into entry level roles and then they get fired because their skill set is so lacking. In order to inflate their placement numbers, they have a system of capturing "in field" and "related field" post-graduate positions. Sometimes the students fills the form out and has to say if they consider it to be a job related to their field of study, but most of the time it is all done verbally and they will stretch just about any position. This is not necessarily the fault of the Career Services staff, but rather the push from upper management to make sure to hit the numbers.

It is ALL about the numbers. Enrollments, money, placement, graduation rate, etc. There is so much micromanaging to the numbers (even down to tracking how many phone calls an employee made in a day) that it makes every position here miserable.

The turnover of the company should be a clear indicator of how bad it is.

The private loans they require students to apply for and take are borderline illegal! They have interest rates up to 28% with monthly payments as high as $500!!! A person making $45K a year would have trouble with making that payment, let alone an average ITT grad who is either unemployed OR underemployed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

SHUT IT DOWN. Quit micromanaging. Quit focusing on profit and actually care about education and students.
