I worked at Illinois Tool Works as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Most interns are placed into a "bullpen" which is great for establishing a team and breaking the ice fast. Some employees really showed care for their jobs and genuinely would do anything necessary to bring success. Intern pay was definitely above average at $22/hr.

    Cons

Unfortunately, interns are used typically as cheap labor. The work is good, but it could be explained better. I wanted to see how I fit into the picture better instead of just hearing what I needed to do on a spreadsheet. I wanted to understand my work rather than be evaluated on the number of tax returns I could prepare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The interns I worked with made working an enjoyable experience, but it did make me feel disconnected from the rest of the employees. There should be better integration so that both sides understand each other better and the work ethics can be seen in person.
