Pros

As a researcher at Imperial you have the opportunity to work and collaborate with very talented colleagues in a stimulating environment. Very good training programs and courses. Flexible working hours.

Cons

Professors and PI's often lack very basic management and leadership skills. Working conditions and opportunities often varies a lot between different labs.

Advice to Management

The managing skills and leadership skills of Professor's and PI's should be reviewed on a regular basis. Online questionnaires where employers can rate their PI's based on research quality, support, professional development and managing skills should be offered.

    Pros

The University is very international with staff and students from all over the world. Collaborations within the group and outside and encouraged and the location is fantastic.

    Cons

Department is small and there is not enough interaction between members of the group. Improvements in IT services should also be made.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in the people and stay competitive with the top global Universities. If people leave, then replace them instead of letting Departments shrink.

    Pros

It has relatively more resources and funding compared to other universities in UK, because of the reputation built up, also the big names in the field.

    Cons

It's very competitive in terms of promotion or career progression. Many keep working as Research Associate, and it's very difficult to progress further as permanent staff
