I have been working at Infosys full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Has excellent infrastructure across all the Indian development centers. The internal facilities are highly subsidized - quality food cost fractions of market price in all the food courts. Mobile shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, Branded showrooms discount their products for employees. Almost free gyms, swimming pools, pools, billiards, squash, badminton, tennis, aerobics facilities with instructors are available. Free clinics and basic medicines, and Pharmacy shops are available in all campuses. Free medical checkups and camps are present that offers regular medical camps under HALE policy. Transport system is excellent where employees have amazingly subsidized and convenient pickup and drop facilities. Best transport system for any large multinational in the country. Great knowledge management systems put across infosys. education and research department is one of the best in the world. words fall short to describe how amazing infosys leverages its training methodology. If you are a hard worker and have ambitious plans to go abroad and work then Infy provides onsite opportunities to all who stay put and committed towards the company.

Cons

Recent policy changes have made it difficult to work. Internet usage policy is so restrictive that one get demotivated when they start their work day. Compulsory work hour averaging policy does takes its toll and makes life difficult for employees who are self motivated and always stride to finish their work fast, so that they can devote enough time to personal life. IMO this work hour averaging is present so that Infy can 'manage' its subsidized infrastructure. The promotions are a social affair in this company. They are given on need basis by management. When they cannot give an onsite opportunity they give promotions so as to please the employee. Needless to say that employee lose any motivation to put in the hard work because of social structure of the policies. Such wage hikes and promotion policies promote lethargy and inactivity across a large workforce that results in less efficiency. If you are in the company, then you will get least jumps in the salary. If you are recruited from outside then they will give you a better package. However, after joining you will join the ranks of existing employees hikes.

Advice to Management

Founders of this company laid a great foundation with Vision, Values and mission. The company achieved a lot at its peak and its still an IT bellwether. However it lost its steam after financial crisis and other IT competitors have surged ahead with lower pricing and margins. Hope you guys also put up a strong fight in bringing meaningful projects and work for 25-30% bench population! So much under-utilization is not helpful for anyone. Please not only try to retain keep key employees but also enforce punishment for under performance of employees. So that the larger workforce does not have to bear the under performers.
