I have been working at Ingersoll-Rand full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Great environment 2000 to 2009 (Trane). I loved working for Trane.

Cons

Control freaks. Micromanagers. Management thinks we are all idiots and treats us like dirt. They hate engineers and would love nothing more than to outsource all design engineering.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate the huge bulge in the middle. Get rid of all the bureaucracy/red tape. Stop promoting weasels.

    Pros

There are plenty of opportunities to make your mark and make a difference throughout this global company. With such a broad manufacturing and service footprint, and multiple business groups, there are seeming-less endless opportunities for one who isn't geographically bound.

    Cons

Though there are some great managers in the company, there is also a great deal of those who are unfamiliar with processes, disconnected from operations, disconnected from the people that drive innovation and creativity within the company, and put employee relations in a check-box on the bottom of their sheet. For those that are willing to put in the work and sacrifice mentioned in the pro's above, be wary that it seems a common practice by the disconnected managers to push some till they break. It's true you can find that anywhere though to an extent.

    Pros

    Wonderful co-workers and fantastic customers.
    Great work locations.

    Cons

District Management relies on personal friendships and word of mouth from other employees rather than exploring for true facts. If someone does not like a co-worker and they have the managements ear, that employee is gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. Gather TRUE facts and make personal decisions based on fact, not what is heard.
