Great if you want to get into Channel Sales. Otherwise poor company choice for technical people.

I have been working at Ingram Micro

Pros

Understand how to manage Channel Partners.
Network with loads and loads of Channel Resellers.
Understand issues/processes with the distribution business.
Getting a job at Ingram is a piece of cake. They'll hire you if you act competent in the interview.
Job security is good.

Cons

Pay scale does not match market standards.
Increment is very menial (4%-7%)
Infrastructure is HORRIBLE. (Desktop PCs from the 90s/Take awfully LONG to start)
Basic things like access to email over the phone is not provided.
Very limited technical growth.
Distributor sales folks are neither respected by partners/resellers nor by principle vendors.
Attrition rate is very high. People come and go as they see no benefit sticking around.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please explain the benefits of working with Ingram Micro to your employees.
Equip the company with better IT infrastructure. You're distributors of great infra after all.
Give email access over the phone. (Isn't this a norm these days?)
Offer a competitive package and HR should give better benefits in terms of remuneration.

    Pros

If you're in Toronto, it's a great place to work. Lots of people and friends to meet. Great way to start your career, meet a lot of vendors, free lunches, prizes etc.
It's a fortune 100 place to work. It's a public company, it's also a place where you can retire.
Pay your dues, and find ways to advance yourself.
There are a lot of bonuses.
If you are the top 1 % of the company, you get to travel all expense paid for vacation with other people around North America.

    Cons

    - Quota system, you have to meet quotas in order to make your commission.
    - It's not that competitive but it's could be a place that's hard to overcome obstacles. It's always hard to make changes in the company.
-There are a lot of veterans who are really bored and tired of their work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the place fun. I know your hands are tied but it's your responsibility to make the place fun. Spend the time to train, spend the time in making the place enjoyable.

    I worked at Ingram Micro

    Pros

Ok place to launch a career and get some experience, but don't stick around too long.
    Decent training and education programs.

    Cons

    Low pay
    Pay raises hardly match inflation
    Stingy tight fisted management
    no work life balance
management will treat you as if you are a robot by expecting the most hours and efficiency from you with no regard to your pay, family, work-life balance.
the company doesn't care about employee health. Management would rather you get sick and die than spend a little more money on your care and well being.
Look at other options before work here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat the employees the way that you would want to be treated.
